When we hear the term “research paper,” it conjures up images of a challenging task in which we must gather material from many sources and analyze it. When Prof. Caitlin and Prof. Molly were discussed in class, I felt the same way. The amount of information was overwhelming to me. Finding primary sources was the most difficult component. My theme was gender inequity and language. This is a huge problem, yet we can’t seem to find any speeches, interviews, or journals on the subject on the internet. I had a limited amount of time to locate the sources. That is why, rather than looking for primary sources, I began with secondary sources. I looked for videos, articles, and art that were related to my theme on YouTube. That was the straightforward part. Then, one day, while speaking with a buddy, I mentioned my research paper and the subject. Fortunately, she could relate to it. She immediately offered to assist me with the interview. That was extremely helpful, and I am grateful to her for it. I needed one more primary source, and when writing the last line, I had an idea where I could get a monolog by a fantastic and well-known actress, so it was simple. I learned a lot of reasoning and what others think about the language while annotating the article, and different scholars have different viewpoints, which was fascinating to learn about. I believed it would be tough for me to understand the words when I started writing the first draft, but as I wrote, I was writing from whatever was on my mind regarding the topic, and when I completed it, I realized I had written almost 2000 words. I know I need to edit, but it’s a major undertaking for me. But it was a relief when I finished writing, and most importantly, the knowledge I obtained during this investigation was invaluable.
